Importance of Being Tech Savvy in the Classroom

The Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of " savvy " is a practical know-how, so I reference the term "tech savvy" as an understanding and practical use of technology. Technology has advanced quite rapidly, and the internet and devices to utilize the internet are affordable.  Time  magazine references studies show that most children by the age of 2 will have been exposed to mobile devices (Sifferlin). With this evidence, technology greatly changes the dynamics students learn, and teachers must be able to adapt for their students to succeed.  "When teachers effectively integrate technology into subject areas, teachers grow into roles of adviser, content expert, and coach" (Wantulok).  Technology is important in every aspect and stage of life and is something that will be used long after students leave the classroom which places an bigger responsibility of teachers to prepare their students for the real world.  References: savv...

Anticipating Experience with Adaptive Technology

My background with special education and STEM are very limited in both areas. Until my enrollment at the University of Guam, I have seen but yet to be in a classroom where an aid or technology equipment was used to assist a student. Both videos, How Assistive Technology Enables Dreams and STEM and People with Disabilities , reiterate this idea. The devices shown during the videos prove adaptive technology does not always need bulky, specialized equipment. The technology already accessible on mobile devices and tablets are easily availab...

I feel that training should be in place for anyone wishing to purchase or renew their internet service and anyone purchasing a digital device. Many people use the internet as a way to physically disconnect with people, which can be the start of something grim. Predators freely reign and attempt to lure in those who are naïve, which in many cases are children. Anyone can be a victim if they are not aware of the warning signs of criminals on the prowl. Additionally, not everyone realizes the internet is highly traceable, and one can be held accountable for illegal usage or downloading of copyright materials. One week of presentations on the above topics are just enough to get by, but there are so many layers of right and wrong on the internet.   The digital world is both useful and harmful, and many pa...
